Liebherr cranes in the construction of the Varyap Meridian Project in Istanbul

Seven top-slewing cranes of the EC-H and EC-B series were deployed in the construction of this large residential and commercial building project.

The Varyap Meridian Project is developing a spectacular, spaciously designed complex of buildings in the Asian part of Istanbul, until the end of 2012. On a total area of 410,000 m², the project encompasses five towers respectively having between 24 and 61 floors for a total of 1,500 residential units, three commercial buildings with a floor space 20,000 m² as well as a five-star hotel with a conference centre. The total volume of the investment for this project amounts to about one billion euros. An important feature of the project is innovative ecological technologies to save energy and improve the environmental compatibility.

Containers of collecting rainwater, wind energy plants and a combined heat and power unit for the self-sufficient supply of electricity to the complex have been implemented, for example. The 61 floors of the Varyab Meridian Tower 1 will be 197 m tall on its completion, the second-highest building in Turkey.

The Liebherr tower cranes employed in Varyap Meridian Project reached hook heights of between 130 m and 200 m, and were anchored on the building. Varyap bought six new cranes of the type 154 EC-H 6 FR.tronic from Liebherr’s sales partner in Turkey, Atilla Dural Mumessillik Insaat Ltd. These are all equipped as standard with a working radius of 60 m and a maximum load capacity of 6 t. The maximum load capacity at the tip is 1.65 t. The seventh crane, a Flat-Top 130 EC-B 6 FR.tronic, was hired from the rental fleet of Atilla Dural. The 130 EC-B hired crane was the last crane on the building site and was used for the conference centre, which is not as high as the other buildings and has a shorter construction phase.
